Wilderness

Maybe so much of what I worry,
About myself,
About my future,
Isn’t really what it appears to be.
Maybe all the uncertainty,

All the doubt,
All the insecurity,
All the fear,
Is really just the wilderness.
And maybe I’m not alone in this desert,
Maybe You hold my hand there,
Calling me to be still.
To learn to trust You fully,
When the road ahead is so unclear.
Because maybe, the wilderness
Is where You strip me of me,
And teach me to become more of You.
So that when the path is made level,
And the answers fall into place,
There is no doubt,
No question,
That everything good in me is You.
So usher in Your glory,
So that everyone near me can see,
That You are the light,
Shining through,
Down this broken, desert path.

“I will plant cedars in the desert, acacias, myrtles, and olive trees. I will put juniper trees in the desert, elms and cypress trees together, so that all may see and know, consider and understand, that the hand of the Lord has done this, the Holy One of Israel has created it.”
(Isaiah 41:19-20)
